Dredging works on the Elbląg River, forming part of the construction of a strategic waterway connecting the Vistula Lagoon with the Gdańsk Bay

Voivodeship / location: Warmian-Masurian VoivodeshipClient: Maritime Office in Gdynia

Stage IV of the waterway connecting the Vistula Lagoon with the Gdańsk Bay comprised dredging works on two sections of the Elbląg River with a combined length of 9.45 km.

The objective of the project was to deepen and widen the existing fairway, thereby improving navigational accessibility and enabling the development of a new strategic transport corridor.

Scope of Works

The project covered two sections of the river:

  • Section from km 7+450 to km 0+000 with a length of 7.45 km
  • Section from point P1 (km 0+000) to point P2, approximately 2.0 km

The scope included dredging, reconstruction, and cleaning of the fairway, together with the execution of infrastructure enabling the implementation of subsequent project stages.

Key scope elements:

  • Section 7,450 m long from km 7+450 to km 0+000
  • Section 2,000 m long from point P1 to point P2, including the removal of ferromagnetic obstacles
  • Total fairway length covered: 9,450 m

Technical Parameters – Section km 7+450 to km 0+000

  • Design bottom width: 60 m (reduced to 40 m over a 900 m stretch near Nowakowo)
  • Two passing places: 248 m x 100 m and 300 m x 120 m
  • Technical depth: Ht = 5.00 m
  • Total dredging volume: approx. 1.5 million m³

Technical Parameters – Section P1 to P2

  • Design bottom width: 20 m
  • Slope inclination: 1:3
  • Technical depth: Ht = 5.00 m
  • Dredging volume: approx. 93,064 m³

Executed Works

The executed works included:

  • Dredging of approximately 580,000 m³ of material between km 7+450 and km 0+000
  • Dredging of approximately 15,000 m³ between points P1 and P2
  • Inspection and removal of ferromagnetic obstacles from the riverbed
  • Transport of dredged material to the reclamation area located on the artificial island in the Vistula Lagoon
